Actor Arjun Chakraborty, on taking the director's hot seat.
Actor Arjun Chakraborty, on taking the director's hot seat. So at last you are getting into direction on the big screen. I had been toying with the idea for a long time. I am glad I have found a producer who wouldn't be breathing down my neck and will allow me the director's creative freedom. What is your storyline on?
It is based on a story written by Suchitra Bhattacharya and I wanted to cast Mamata Shankar, Tota Roychowdhury and Koel Mallick in the film. I have kept a small role for myself. Suchitradi and I are working on the script. Bikram Ghosh will be approached to set the score. Give us a sneak peek into the film. I do not want to limit it to a genre. The treatment will be mature. I'd like to break new ground and venture into uncharted territory. And yet I'll want my film to have mass appeal. You started your life as an assistant to Gulzar. Do you think your experiences will help you now? While I learnt the technicalities on the job I have been taught to value hard work as well. I've even had to mop and sweep floors of sets. To be good a filmmaker you have to be sound in technique and have a vision too. Do you believe hype sells? Most often we have seen that after the hype comes the disappointment. It's better to concentrate on the end product. So you will be concentrating on direction now. I will make a Hindi film in Kolkata after this. If I can get my guru Gulzar or Javed Akhtar to write the script, then it's mission accomplished.
